Single Review: Sixty Minute Man – You Made Me Say Please

The website seems to have taken on a distinctly Northern flavour this week; you guys up there are killing it right now. So without further ado I’d like to introduce you to the latest entrant into what has become a bit of a Northern takeover, a band called Sixty Minute Man. (I’m sure there’s a joke in there somewhere…)

The band formed in Salford back in 2014 and is made up of Daz Beasley (Vocals) Lee Fox (Guitar) Sean Duffy (Guitar) Adam Lyons (Keyboard) Dan Hamnett (Bass) and Scott Beesley (Drums). Before their one year anniversary the band had released their debut EP and sold out Sound Control in Manchester with the launch show.

At the back end of last year the band hit the studio once more and new single New Made Me Say Please is the result. I must confess that when I first listened to the song my reaction was a shrug of the shoulders and a noise which sounded something like ‘meh.’ It did absolutely nothing for me, not because it was a bad song, it was just kind of there. However, I’ll be damned if this full throttle slice of keyboard enthused Indie didn’t grow on me with every listen. I still think it’s more solid than spectacular but it’s also a damn sight better than my initial reaction suggested.

The guitars swirl, the vocal rains down with a classic Northern Indie swagger and the rhythm section really push the track along at a cracking pace. I don’t think that the song has the strongest chorus in the world but that’s the only real negative. There’s nothing to really grab you. That being said, it’s not enough to stop of the track from being a very, very solid effort. I suspect that there is plenty more to come from these boys.

In support of the new single which is out now the band will be playing the following live dates:

Fri Apr 8th at The Rocking Chair, SHEFFIELD

Fri Apr 15th at The Blind Tiger, WIGAN

Sat Apr 16th at The Brewhouse, WARRINGTON

Sat Apr 30th at Club Academy, MANCHESTER (supporting Alias Kid)

Sat May 14th at Gorilla, MANCHESTER (supporting Space Monkeys)
