Single Review: Sun Circus – We Went To War

I have said on numerous occasions that if you bring me a song with fuzzy guitars then I will be a happy man, and that’s exactly what Sun Circus have done.

We Went To War is the band’s follow up to their debut Got That Feeling but in lots of ways the two songs couldn’t be more different. Got That Feeling has far more of a straight laced Indie feel and a sunnier disposition while this new track bends genres as well as chords.

There’s a serious Blues and Black Keys influence on display in this track and the result is a piece of music which is a hell of a lot grittier and multi-layered. These guys may look like your average Indie band but there is a hell of a lot more to them than that. As I said the Black Keys influence is nearly as strong as the fuzzy guitars and the chorus is enough of an event to get your attention. I’m a big fan of the guitar work and the song in general feels a lot more interesting than a lot of what’s out right now.

We Went To War might be the first time that you have heard from Sun Circus but I don’t think that it will be the last. These two singles have shown that the band have depth and the level of skill to skip through styles like they are meaningless labels.

What I’m trying to say is that We Went To War is a very good song from a very good band.

We Went To War is officially released 11th March.
