In what has already been a week of announcements I’ve got another one for you. The ‘Queen of UK Soul,’ the Black Country’s very own Beverley Knight has announced brand new UK tour.
Not only that but it has now been confirmed that Knight will also be releasing her 8th studio album next spring. This will then be followed by a run of dates all over the UK throughout May and June. The tour will also feature a nod to her latest venture into musical theatre, a performance at the world renowned London Palladium, where she is currently starring in an 11 week run of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic Cats.
Knight’s musical CV makes for mighty impressive reading. She has scored several top 10 selling albums, including the platinum selling Voice: The Best Of Beverley Knight. Other accolades include an MBE awarded by the Queen in 2007 for her services to music and charity, three MOBO Awards, several Brit Awards nominations and an outstanding achievement award at The Urban Music Awards.
While her live performances as a touring artist have gained her a legion of famous fans over the years, from David Bowie to Prince, Stevie Wonder to Quincy Jones. She has collaborated on stage and on record with the likes of Prince, Jamiroquai, Bryan Adams, Ronnie Wood, Andrea Bocelli, Lionel Richie, Take That and Chaka Kahn.
Over the course of the last few years the Wolverhampton born star has forged quite the career in musical theatre on London’s West End. She made her highly acclaimed debut as Rachel Marron in The Bodyguard in 2013, before taking on the role as club singer Felicia Farrell in the hit show Memphis The Musical , for which she received widespread praise from critics and an Olivier Award Nomination as Best Actress in a Musical. The production won Best New Musical at the 2015 ‘What’s On Stage Awards’ and received more Olivier Award nominations than any other West End show in 2015.
