The last time that I reviewed Underground Ocean the website broke and died a nasty ‘Server cannot find website’ death so I’m hoping for slightly better luck this time around. Now, I’m not saying that the band put some kind of spell on the site, but it worked perfectly before I reviewed them, and it’s worked fine since…
The reason that I am running this potentially website destroying gauntlet is that the aforementioned four intrepid men from Worcester have a new single out called I See Through You, and once again, it’s pretty damn good.
The band lists Foo Fighters, Police, Fleetwood Mac and Stereophonics among their influences and you can definitely hear traces of all of those bands here but none more so than ‘Phonics. There is more than a hint of Kelly Jones about that vocal from Mcdonnell and I mean that as the big compliment which it appears.
The chorus is a cracker and gives the track that extra umph needed to stand out and just in general the whole thing is balanced really well. The production from Gavin Monaghan is also first class, smooth and balanced in the extreme. The man never seems to put a foot wrong behind the boards.
The band are currently working towards the release of an as yet untitled EP which will be out into the world by the end of the year, and if it’s anything like the two tracks which I have heard from these guys so far it’s going to be fantastic. Somehow I will get a copy of said record to review for you guys as well so sit tight on that one.
Anyway, back to the here and now and I See Through You which is an absolutely brilliant tune. I had high hopes on this one before I hit play and it has delivered, it’s another stellar offering, simple as that. Bring on the EP.
