Single Review: Audio Poets – Not My Time

There aren’t many better feelings in music than when a song n artist or a song take you completely by surprise. Up until yesterday I had never even heard of Audio Poets so I had no idea what to expect when I opened up yet another email and hit play, but man; am I glad that I did.

Not My Time is the first single to be taken from the band’s upcoming debut album Make A Scene and they have absolutely smashed it out the park with this one.

Originally coming out of Dallas, Texas but now based in L.A, singer Chris Durio and guitarists Mario Mitchell and Brendan Whitely (Bru) have made a statement with this track. Personally I think that the lead single from any project really needs to lay down a marker and say ‘this is who we are, and this is awesome we are’ and these guys have done just that here.

There’s a real early/mid 2000’s throwback vibe about this one but at the same time it feels fresh as hell. The opening verse is set against a great bouncing beat before a killer of a chorus kicks in. I don’t think that there are really any weak points with this track but it’s that hook which takes it from good to great. If this tune was from a ‘name’ band and not an up and coming band then it would be all over your radios right now without a doubt. I just love it, I just works.

As far as introductions to bands go then Not My Time is definitely one of the best that I have experienced for a while. Everything about the song is completely on the money and as a result I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album. Hopefully I’ll be able to hook up a review for you.

If you’ve only got room in your day to check out one new song from one new band as you’re reading this then you really should make it this one. Not My Time is awesome.
