As seen as we’re coming off the back of what was apparently one hell of a Download Festival weekend I think it’s only right that I keep the hard rock vibes coming.
Based in Birmingham Torous are Marc Malone (Vocals, guitar) GMT (Bass) and Tom Fenn (Drums) and they produce the kind of hard hitting heavy rock for which the West Midlands is famous.
Dried Bones is the lead single taken from the upcoming EP of the same name which is set for release on 27th June. To coincide with the release the band are playing an EP launch show at the o2 Academy 3 in Birmingham on the same night which promises to be a big one for all involved.
The track itself is almost like a showcase. It’s like the band have thought ‘right we’ve got 4 minutes to cram in everything into a track which we think makes us awesome.’ I highly doubt that that’s how it went down but when you hear the track you’ll know what I mean.
The intro builds and builds like the track is about to launch into something unspeakably huge before doing the opposite and stripping back for the opening verse. It’s a trick which Black Sabbath love to pull out as it keeps the listener on their toes and I think it works well here. The drop instead comes into the chorus which gives it a bigger impact. I like how the track goes through various phases of slower more ponderous moments, quicker almost metal sections and pretty much everything in between. Plus the guitar solo is killer if like me you love that sort of thing.
Dried Bones isn’t a track which instantly grabbed me but I found myself enjoying different parts of it every time that I hit play. In truth I’m maybe not 100% sold on the band, something about the song hasn’t quite clicked with me yet, but there is more than enough to keep me coming back for the time being. The track has definitely done one job though; I want to hear the rest of the EP.
I might not fully aboard the Torous bandwagon just yet, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t got my attention.
A full review of the ‘Dried Bones’ EP will follow soon.
