Single Review: Disturbed – The Vengeful One

This week has officially been the week of the comeback. We’ve already had a new Janet Jackson single, Fort Minor popped up with new music for the first time in a decade and now wouldn’t you know it Disturbed are back.

The band have been on hiatus since 2011 and I can’t lie I had kind of forgotten about them. They just dropped completely off the radar. It turns out though they haven’t spent the intervening four years just sat on a beach, here’s the message that the band posted on their official Facebook page a couple of hours ago.

“Disturbed ones – The hiatus is over. Over the past year, we’ve been secretly writing and recording a brand new album. Today, we are excited to share a new song called “The Vengeful One” along with a new music video. It’s off our upcoming album called “Immortalized,” which will be released on August 21, and is available for pre-order today. This album had the arduous task of, in some way, justifying the hiatus; giving the fans something that made it worth our time away from one another. We hope that it succeeds in that task. Thank you for staying with us over the years.”

As someone who has dipped in and out of the band down the years I’d say that The Vengeful One does pretty much everything that you’d want a Disturbed track to do. I think you’re a fan then you’ll dig it, but if you’re not then I don’t think that it’s going to convert you. The drums hit outrageously hard and while it maybe hasn’t got the grit of some of their earlier stuff, this is a really strong track to come back with. I’m certainly interested to hear the rest of the album off the back of this anyway, and I dare say I won’t be the only one.

Disturbed may have been away for four years but as The Vengeful One proves they are not only back, they are also at the top of their game.
