“Just look at the spark lit in your eyes, Like a rhythm through your veins, These stars are shining bright tonight”
20 Cent Dreams are Sam Threadgold (Lead vocals, guitar) Joseph McCarthy (Bass) and Liam Hornsby. (Drums, vocals) The band originally formed back in September 2012 in southern France before the trio moved to London in October 2014 2 EP’s and a bucket load of shows later. The band describe their sound as ‘Pop/Rock with Indie and Funk tendencies,’ and while you might not be able to hear all of those things in this track they are definitely present in much of their other stuff so it’s not just PR spin.
Winter Came is the band’s current single and I for one am a fan. As far as your pop/rock style singles go it has pretty much got everything. One of the main things that I like about the track is the song writing. I dropped the opening line or so at the top of the review because I think it encapsulates exactly why I like it so much. There’s just a beautiful simple, poetic smoothness to the lyrics which can be hard to find sometimes. I’m a big fan of being simple and understated when it comes to song writing so this is a big plus for me.
The vocals are all totally on point and the chorus is suitably radio friendly. In fact the whole track has undoubted mainstream appeal for my money. There’s no need for me to overcomplicate the issue here, Winter Came is just a brilliant track.
I’ve checked out some of the band’s other music too and I would definitely recommend their last EP Gathering Dust which you can find on Soundcloud. I think that these guys have got a load of potential, it’s going to be interesting to see how they develop but I know that i’ll certainly be along for the ride.
