Single Review: Token Joker – Ride The Train

The year 2015 is a damn good time to be in a rock band, the resurgence is well and truly underway. The proof it written all over the pages of this very website, they are everywhere and wouldn’t you know it I’ve got another one for you.

Token Joker are Leon Welsh (Lead Vocals) Matt Coleman (Rhythm guitar, vocals) Chris ‘Snakey’ Dearing (Lead guitar) Michael Jackson (Bass) and Rupert ‘Roddy’ Waldron (Drums). Based down in Dawlish, Devon, the five-some formed in early last year and have a brand new EP on the way. Just Part Of The System will be released on 27th April.

Ride The Train is taken from the aforementioned new EP and it’s a straight rock banger. The intro is basically a guitar solo, and the tone is awesome. It’s got a kind of early Oasis kind of tone to it but just heavier. The vocal which I love is full of swagger and attitude and drags the track around by the scruff of the neck. The best thing however is that while it has a classic kind of throwback feel it still sounds fresh as hell. For me you can also hear The Hives stamp all over this tune, which is never a bad thing in my book.

You want a straight up rock banger then Ride The Train your tune. I’m going to be watching this band because this record right here has got my attention is a major way.

You can see the band live here –

The Newquay Inn – Teignmouth – Sat May 9th

The Cavern – Exeter – Sat May 30th (supporting Kolo)

Glas-denbury festival – Sat July 11th
