Single Review: The Little Secrets – All I Need

First and foremost I want to apologise for being so painfully behind the curve when it comes to this track. This single was released back in January but despite that I really wanted to give it a review anyway.

The Little Secrets are Stacy – Jo (Vocals) and Kevin Dixon. (Instruments, vocals) The duo from Liverpool met in 2010 at the world famous Cavern Club. I heard that in the 60’s this band used to play there and I’m told they were pretty successful. Anyway the pair are joined here by Colin Lloyd (Guitar) Dean Hampton (Bass) and Chris Campbell. (Drums)

There are plenty of reasons why I love this track but the main one is probably its simplicity. There’s no drama, no layer upon layer of effects, or a band trying too hard to look clever. All I Need is two and a half minutes of beautiful pop simplicity. To say that the song is 60’s tinged would be a massive understatement, it belongs in 1962. It just feels like a throwback to better days.

The vocal from Stacy-Jo is sensational; it’s fantastically crisp and understated. The song leans heavily on a great little melody which is pushed along by a light, bouncing drumbeat. As I write this I’m listening to the song while the sun is beaming through the windows and the world just feels like a great place to be.

All I Need is a brilliant little gem of a tune, and one which you definitely need in your life. Great vocal, great melody, great song.
