Single Review: Junebug – Wild

There are going to be hundreds of new bands that get featured on these pages over the course of 2015 but I am going to kick the new year off with a Musical Outcast favourite; Junebug.

The Glasgow 5 piece were one of the stand out bands of last year and if this new track is anything to go by then they show no signs of slowing down. Since their last release, EP The Singles the band have gained a new bassist in the form of David Devereux and it seems that he has slotted in seamlessly. Wild the first single to be taken from the bands as yet untitled upcoming EP and it’s classic Junebug.

The track is a rich tapestry of flowing melodies, slick rhythms and spellbinding vocals from the ever impressive Alli Martin. While the song retains the polish and sharpness that has characterised their best work there is also definitely a progression here, it just feels like the band have really found their lane now and found their sound. The rolling drum rhythms really push the track forward at quite a clip in places and the guitar work as always is brilliantly understated.

In short Wild is the sound of a band who have found their rhythm and are right at the top of their game. The band headline King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut on Saturday the 10th of January and you can listen to Wild below.
